Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has forwarded a new list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly, featuring exactly the same individuals who served in his cabinet before its dissolution on August 10, 2025.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor explained that the decision to recall the former commissioners was reached after extensive consultations with the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other major stakeholders.
“The decision was hinged on the need for the party to go into the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State Governorship election as a united family,” the statement read.
“It is believed that appointing a new set of commissioners barely seven months to the election could be counter-productive.”
The governor emphasised continuity and accountability, noting that the same party leaders, community heads, and critical stakeholders who participated in the 2023 screening and selection process had again been consulted.
“Governor Oyebanji had, at the inception of his administration, promised that the party and leaders of various towns and communities in the state would play crucial roles in the appointment process to ensure appointees remain accountable to the people,” the statement added.
The list is now before the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
