The Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, have announced plans to move from Television live broadcast to YouTube stream.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences informed the
public about the new development on Wednesday.
Leaders of the Academy in a statement noted that the YouTube
streaming will commence with its 101st edition ceremony in 2029 till 2033.
It explained that the development is to reach new and
broader audiences across the globe following the historical transitioning shift
from traditional television broadcast to digital platforms due to the wider
trends in media consumption.
The Academy CEO, Bill Kramer, and its President, Lynette
Howell Taylor said “We are thrilled to enter a multifaceted global partnership
with YouTube to be the future home of the Oscars and our year-round Academy
programming.”
According to the statement, the ceremony will be broadcast
live and free on YouTube, ending over five decades of television coverage on
ABC.
