The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has alerted passport applicants and the public to expect significant downtime on its digital platform as essential maintenance work begins this midnight.
In an official advisory posted on its X account Friday, the NIS detailed a 42-hour maintenance schedule designed to bolster the platform's efficiency and user interface. The upgrade, overseen by the service's technical experts, will pause operations from 12:00 a.m. GMT on December 12 until 6:00 a.m. GMT on December 14, 2025.
"This routine maintenance on our Passport Digital Platform is crucial for enhancing system performance and delivering a smoother experience for all users," stated ACI AS Akinlabi, the NIS Public Relations Officer, in the signed notice.
During the blackout, individuals attempting to book appointments, renew documents, or access other passport-related features may encounter complete outages, sluggish loading, or restricted functionalities.
The agency emphasized that these measures are vital for upholding a robust and secure online ecosystem amid rising demand for immigration services.NIS teams are committed to minimizing delays, with round-the-clock monitoring to expedite the rollout.
