Nigerian-born cloud engineer Abel Yakubu has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the holder of the title for the Longest Computer Programming Lesson, following a grueling 60-hour marathon session held in Abuja last month.
The record-breaking event, which took place from November 21 to 23, 2025, saw Yakubu, who works with NexEdge Technologies and is based in Germany, lead a continuous lesson on cloud computing platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
Drawing on his more than a decade of experience in the field, Yakubu surpassed the previous record of 48 hours and 15 minutes.Supported by 30 dedicated participants and monitored by over 20 independent witnesses along with more than 25 official observers the session involved 60 students and was live-streamed across major social media platforms to ensure transparency and compliance with Guinness guidelines.
“I, Abel Yakubu of NexEdge Technologies, with the support of 30 committed participants and 20 independent witnesses, have been approved as the Guinness World Record title holder for the Longest Computer Programming Lesson,” Yakubu stated in announcing the achievement.
Yakubu explained that the challenge was designed to inspire young tech enthusiasts amid the global rise of artificial intelligence.
“I undertook this challenge to inspire young tech enthusiasts to develop strong tech skills, especially as AI adoption continues to rise globally,” he said, emphasizing the role of teamwork, thorough planning, and shared commitment in the success.
Preparation for the marathon lasted two months, with Yakubu noting that the overnight segments were particularly demanding. Over the past year, he has trained more than 200 young Nigerians in technology skills and called on parents and stakeholders to encourage digital literacy among the youth.
The official confirmation from Guinness World Records highlights perseverance and collective effort while underscoring Nigeria's emerging prominence in global technology education and innovation.
