Nigeria Now Among World’s Top 10 Cheapest Fuel Markets - Reno Omokri Lauds Tinubu

Social commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has hailed the recent reduction in petrol prices in Nigeria as a "Christmas present" to citizens from President Bola Tinubu, claiming the country now ranks among the top 10 globally for the cheapest fuel.

In a post on Monday, December 22, 2025, Omokri stated that petrol is currently priced at ₦739 per litre, equivalent to $0.50 USD, placing Nigeria in the top 10 countries with the lowest pump prices worldwide.

He cited a reported drop of over 10% from $0.608 per litre in November 2025, attributing the decline to Tinubu's policy of ending fuel subsidies, which he said has attracted investment and fostered competition in the downstream oil sector as promised during the 2023 campaign.

Omokri argued that falling petrol prices have contributed to easing inflation, noting a decline from 33.95% in May 2024 to 14.45% recently, as lower fuel costs reduce expenses across transportation, goods, and services.

He urged Nigerians to appreciate the government for improved fuel availability and lower prices during the festive season, contrasting it with past nationwide protests like #OccupyNigeria when prices rose.

Omokri criticized opposition figures and influencers for allegedly downplaying the achievement while quick to mobilize against increases, emphasizing that petrol pricing profoundly impacts the economy and daily life.

Recent reports confirm some filling stations, particularly those dispensing Dangote Refinery products, have reduced prices to around ₦739 per litre amid market competition, though average prices vary by region and outlet, with others still higher.

Global rankings from sources like GlobalPetrolPrices.com indicate heavily subsidized oil-producing nations such as Iran, Libya, and Venezuela maintain the world's lowest prices, typically under $0.05–$0.35 per litre.
