Nigeria, France Sign MoU on Tax Cooperation

Nigeria has strengthened its tax administration reforms by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with France on digital transformation and international taxation cooperation, while the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, unveiled a new brand identity for the rebranded Joint Revenue Board (JRB).

The MoU, signed on December 10, 2025, at the French Embassy in Abuja by Dr. Adedeji and French Ambassador Marc Fonbaustier on behalf of France’s Direction Générale des Finances Publiques (DGFiP), focuses on key areas including digital transformation, workforce development, information exchange, transfer pricing, and tackling base erosion and profit shifting.

Adedeji described the partnership as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s transition to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in January 2026, emphasising mutual benefits: Nigeria will leverage France’s advanced technology in compliance management and data-driven enforcement, while France gains insights from Nigeria’s rapid digital expansion and innovative solutions.

“This partnership will help build a revenue administration that is modern, trusted, innovative, and globally connected,” Adedeji said.Separately, at the 158th meeting of the former Joint Tax Board (JTB) in Abuja, themed “Managing Transition: Driving Transformation, Building the Future of Tax Administration in Nigeria,” Adedeji unveiled the new JRB logo and brand elements.

The rebranding follows the signing of the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2025 by President Bola Tinubu in June, marking the institution’s evolution toward greater coordination and efficiency in revenue administration across federal and sub-national levels.

Adedeji urged stakeholders to align with the ongoing tax reforms, which aim to enhance compliance, deepen collaboration, and position Nigeria for improved revenue generation ahead of 2026.
