Nigeria Affirms US Security Partnership After Precision Airstrikes on ISIS Targets in Sokoto

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement confirming ongoing structured security cooperation with the United States, including intelligence sharing and coordination, which enabled recent US-led precision airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) positions in the country's Northwest region on Christmas Day.

The ministry's statement emphasized that Nigerian authorities are actively collaborating with international partners, particularly the US, to counter terrorism and violent extremism.

These efforts, conducted in accordance with international law and full respect for Nigeria's sovereignty, resulted in targeted strikes that hit terrorist sites in the Northwest.

Nigeria highlighted that counter-terrorism operations are always prioritized to protect civilian lives, preserve national unity, and safeguard the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

The government condemned terrorist violence in every form as an assault on Nigerian values and global security whether it targets Christians, Muslims, or other groups.

The Federal Government reiterated its dedication to partnering through diplomatic and security channels to degrade terrorist networks, cut off their funding and logistics, and mitigate cross-border risks, while bolstering Nigeria's domestic security and intelligence capabilities.

The ministry assured continued engagement with partners and pledged to inform the public via official channels.

The strikes, which US officials said killed multiple ISIS militants in Sokoto State, were carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities.
