A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Isah Abdullahi, attached to the armoury of the 12 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Minna, has d!ed after shooting himself during a routine arms audit.
The incident occurred on December 16, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., in his office, according to a statement from the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.DSP Abdullahi, also known as Kunkuri, had been arrested the previous day, December 15, on suspicion of involvement in the illegal supply of arms and ammunition to terrorists operating in the state.
He was escorted to his office for an audit to account for missing rifles and ammunition when he reportedly picked up a pistol and shot himself in the head, dying instantly.
"The policemen who were detailed along for the audit and investigation activities were arrested for negligence in the line of duty, to have allowed such a situation to occur," Abiodun stated, adding that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Authorities have involved the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) in probing the wider network of alleged illegal arms dealings.No motive beyond the ongoing investigation has been officially confirmed.
