The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified surveillance and deployed officers to prevent the entry of recalled Indomie Instant Noodles Vegetable Flavour into Nigeria, following a safety recall by French authorities over undeclared allergens.
The recall, initiated by France's Rappel Conso, affects all batches of the Vegetable Flavour noodles with a best-before date of February 6, 2026, due to the presence of undeclared milk and eggs ingredients that could trigger severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
In a public alert issued on December 18, 2025, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, clarified that the implicated product is not manufactured in Nigeria, not registered for sale here, and originates from abroad.
She emphasised that locally produced Indomie noodles, including those from Dufil Prima Foods, are safe and comply with strict regulatory standards.
NAFDAC has placed its Ports Inspection Directorate on high alert to block any attempts at importation.
Zonal directors and state coordinators nationwide have been directed to conduct surveillance and mop up any stocks found in markets or distribution channels.
The agency noted that noodles are on the Federal Government's Import Prohibition List, making legal importation impossible and significantly lowering the risk of entry.
However, potential illicit channels such as smuggling, online purchases, or traveller luggage prompted the heightened measures.
Consumers, distributors, and retailers are urged to avoid the product, discard any found, and report suspicions to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the toll-free line 0800-162-3322.
Adverse reactions should also be reported through official channels.
