Military Allegedly Arrests Four Police Officers for Defying Tinubu's VIP Escort Ban

Military personnel have allegedly arrested four police officers accused of providing unauthorised escort to a VIP, in direct violation of President Bola Tinubu's directive withdrawing police from such duties.

The officers, ASP Musa Waziri and Insp. Jeremiah Achimogu (both from 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja), Insp. Awipi Terry (21 PMF), and Insp. Hassan Baba (50 PMF, Abuja), were detained on December 17 around 9:30 a.m. while reportedly on escort duty.

Sources revealed the policemen wore uniforms resembling those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in an apparent bid to evade detection amid strict enforcement of the policy.

The arrested officers remain in detention as disciplinary proceedings commence under police regulations.

President Tinubu's order, first issued in November 2025 and reaffirmed in December, aims to redeploy thousands of officers to frontline duties against rising insecurity, with VIPs directed to seek protection from NSCDC personnel instead.
