The Lagos State Police Command has rolled out extensive security measures for the Christmas and New Year festivities, deploying thousands of personnel across land and waterways to ensure the safety of lives, property, and smooth traffic flow during the holiday season.
In compliance with directives from Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered the massive deployment on December 23, 2025.
The operation includes conventional officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, marine police for waterway patrols, and special squads positioned to prevent security breaches.
A key focus is traffic management amid the expected festive rush, with over 5,000 personnel specifically assigned to duties on major highways, inner roads, and congestion-prone areas.
Officers have been instructed to intensify visibility policing, round-the-clock surveillance, and patrols, while joint teams target traffic robbers, hoodlums, and other criminal elements.
Special attention is being paid to high-risk locations, including places of worship, recreational centres, nightclubs, markets, motor parks, and public gathering spots.
Marine units are enhancing surveillance to block potential criminal infiltration via waterways.
CP Jimoh recently chaired a strategic meeting with the Lagos State Security Trust Fund and agencies like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASTMA, and Lagos State Fire Service to address rising road accidents and bolster overall safety.
Deployed officers have been directed to remain professional, courteous, yet firm in their duties.
The command reassured residents and visitors of a peaceful Yuletide, urging the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
This proactive strategy aims to deliver a crime-free and hitch-free holiday period in Africa's most populous city.
