The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and recovered 54 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during an intelligence-led patrol in the Bani area of Kaiama Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, involved local vigilantes led by Commander Taiye Abubakar. The team spotted two men on a Bajaj motorcycle and attempted to stop them. One suspect, Lawale Falike from Sambo Ginda via Jebba, initially escaped, but the other, Gero Mahamadu from Komi Marshallashi via Bani, was apprehended.
A search of Mahamadu revealed the 54 rounds of ammunition. During interrogation, he confessed that the rounds were supplied by Alhaji Shahu Fire and Ismail Mashamari, both from Sambo Ginda via Jebba, and were intended for delivery to one Manu in Ilesha Baruba for a planned kidnapping.
Following the confession, police arrested Lawale Falike and Alhaji Shahu Fire, who reportedly provided useful statements. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining fugitives, Manu and Ismail Mashamari, as well as recover any additional weapons linked to the plot.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo confirmed the arrests, describing them as a significant blow to criminal networks amid heightened security concerns in parts of the state affected by banditry and kidnapping.
The recovered ammunition is believed to be part of supplies for "end users" in ongoing criminal activities.
