KWAM 1, the Fuji singer, has formally submitted a proposal to be considered for the vacant throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ogun state.
The singer’s application comes months after the passing of
Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who died in July at the age of 91 after a 64-year reign,
one of the longest in Nigerian history.
In a formal letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the
Fusengbuwa Ruling House, KWAM 1 declared his intention to ascend the ancestral
stool.
In the letter shared with TheCable Lifestyle, the music icon
stated that his bid aligns strictly with the provisions of Ijebu customary law
and the Ogun State chieftaincy laws.
The 68-year-old artiste, born Wasiu Ayinde Adewale
Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, traced his eligibility to his royal
lineage, noting that his ancestry descends from the Jadiara line of the
Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters.
In the letter, KWAM 1 highlighted his decades of cultural
advocacy, citing over 50 years of promoting Yoruba and Ijebu heritage through
his music.
He also listed key honours bestowed upon him, including the
national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 2022 and the
traditional title of Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu, conferred by the late
Awujale.
“I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan
Anifowoshe, MON, hereby formally notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention
to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland, subject
strictly to the provisions of Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State
Chieftaincy Laws,” the letter reads.
“I was born on 3rd March, 1957, and I am a bona fide son of
the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, tracing my ancestry to the
Oba Jadiara lineage, which qualifies me to present myself for consideration in
accordance with established tradition.
“I have devoted over five decades to the promotion of Ijebu,
Yoruba, and Nigerian culture through music and cultural enterprise.
“In the course of my service, I have received various
traditional and national honours, including my installation as Mayegun of
Yorubaland (2020).
“The national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger –
MON (2022) was conferred as Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile
Ijebu (2023) by the late Awujale.”
