A Chinese national, Mr. Wang, abducted during a September 5 ambush that killed eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers in Edo State, has been freed in Kogi State.
The expatriate was released around 11:30 p.m. on December 2 in Kabba, Kogi State, according to security sources monitoring the case.
Mr. Wang, who was working at the BUA Cement Plant in Okpella when gunmen attacked the NSCDC team escorting Chinese workers, reportedly left Nigeria immediately after his release and has returned to China.
No official statement has been issued on whether ransom was paid or the circumstances surrounding his freedom nearly three months after the deadly incident.
