Ireti Kingibe, senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says she will register as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday, December 18.
In July, Kingibe announced that she has dumped the Labour
Party (LP) for the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker said her defection was a deliberate move and
would be formalised with “fanfare”.
A statement issued by Kennedy Mbele, senior special
assistant on media to the FCT senator, said the event, scheduled for 10 am,
will take place at the ADC national headquarters in Wuse, Abuja.
The statement said the exercise reaffirms Kingibe’s exit
from the LP, noting that the registration will formally usher the lawmaker into
the ADC.
Senior officials of the ADC, candidates for the February 21
FCT area council elections, party supporters and members of the press are
expected to attend.
“Kingibe’s bold step of joining ADC makes her the only
serving senator in the new but vibrant opposition party, ADC,” the statement
reads.
The statement described the lawmaker’s credentials as “an
invaluable asset in any political space across the globe.”
On Wednesday, the senate rejected a motion sponsored by
Kingibe, which sought legislative intervention in several governance challenges
confronting Abuja.
