Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sounded the alarm over the alleged killing of three farmers in his hometown of Igboho, located in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State's Oke-Ogun region.
In a statement issued on Monday, Igboho identified the victims as Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka, and Ojeniyi Ojebayo.
He claimed they were attacked with axes, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons by suspected Fulani herdsmen after protesting the destruction of their farms by grazing cattle.
The farmers were reportedly rushed to a hospital but succumbed to their injuries despite efforts to save them.Igboho described the incident, which allegedly occurred on Sunday, as a continuation of longstanding warnings he has issued about insecurity in the area.
He urged President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to take decisive action to curb growing threats in rural communities across Oyo State and the South-West, warning that patience among victims and their families is wearing thin and could lead to self-defence measures.
“This is exactly what I have been warning the government about for years. Nothing has changed, and our people continue to suffer attacks while those responsible roam freely,” the statement read in part.
He further called for enhanced protection in the Oke-Ogun axis, where insecurity has become a daily reality, and emphasised the need for security agencies to use actionable intelligence to arrest perpetrators and prevent further violence.
Igboho highlighted concerns over the activities of rogue herdsmen, bandits, and hoodlums infiltrating rural settlements and forests in the South-West, parts of Kwara, and Kogi states.
The activist stressed that prompt arrests and prosecutions are essential to deter such crimes and restore peace.
