Nigeria's anti-graft agency, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has officially confirmed receiving a formal petition from billionaire businessman and Dangote Group Chairman, Aliko Dangote, alleging corruption against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, and signed by ICPC Spokesperson John Okor Odey, the commission stated:“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to confirm that it received a formal petition today, Tuesday 16th December, 2025, from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer.
The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed.“The ICPC wishes to state that the petition will be duly investigated.”
The petition, submitted through Dangote's lawyer, Ogwu James Onoja (SAN), reportedly accuses Ahmed of living beyond his legitimate means as a public officer, including allegations of spending over $7 million on the education of his four children at elite schools in Switzerland, with fees paid upfront for up to six years.
Dangote is said to have provided specific details of the children, schools, and amounts to facilitate verification, claiming these expenditures cannot be justified by Ahmed's career earnings in the public sector.
The development escalates an ongoing public dispute between Dangote and the NMDPRA leadership over regulatory issues in Nigeria's petroleum sector.
As of now, neither the NMDPRA nor Ahmed has issued a public response to the allegations. The House of Representatives has also intervened, summoning both parties and urging restraint from further public comments to avoid undermining sector gains.
