Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law after the State House of Assembly increased the proposed budget from N757.88 billion to N766.37 billion.
The signing ceremony took place at the Lighthouse in Awka, the state capital, where the governor acknowledged the lawmakers' adjustments, describing them as made "in their wisdom" following thorough deliberations.
The Eighth Assembly, through its Committee on Finance and Appropriation chaired by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, recommended the increment of N8.49 billion.
This raised recurrent expenditure by N7 billion to N169.60 billion and capital expenditure by N1.49 billion to N596.77 billion.The approved budget breakdown allocates N169,602,802,205 for recurrent expenditure and N596,771,685,500 for capital projects, bringing the total to N766,374,487,705 for the 2026 fiscal year.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, noted that the adjustments were carefully crafted to balance recurrent obligations with funding for capital initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of Anambra residents.
Reflecting on the budget after assent, Governor Soludo described it as "more than numbers a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises," with resources focused on critical community needs.
He commended the lawmakers for their thorough scrutiny and timely passage, highlighting the productive partnership between the executive and legislature as key to accelerating development in the state.
Soludo emphasized his administration's guiding principles of transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, stating that the budget creates an enabling environment for effective service delivery and sustainable growth.
During the same event, the governor also signed three additional laws: the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025; the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025; and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.
