Gombe Leads Northern States with N12 Billion Allocation to Regional Security FundGombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of N617.95 billion dubbed the "Budget of Consolidation."
The signing ceremony occurred at the Government House in Gombe, where the Governor received the passed bill from the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo.
The budget allocates N189 billion (21.6%) to recurrent expenditure and N428.5 billion (69.4%) to capital projects, emphasizing infrastructure development, service delivery, and sustainable growth.
Originally proposed by the Governor at N535.69 billion in November 2025, the Assembly increased it by over N82 billion following detailed reviews, including an extended session in Calabar.
A standout provision is the N12 billion earmarked for the Northern States' regional security fund equivalent to N1 billion monthly aligning with recent resolutions by the Northern Governors' Forum to establish a dedicated trust fund for coordinated security efforts across the region.
This positions Gombe as a leader in addressing northern Nigeria's persistent insecurity challenges through committed funding.
During the ceremony, Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration's priorities: protecting lives and property, completing legacy projects, and delivering equitable development in urban and rural areas.
He highlighted focus areas including health, education, social investments, environmental protection, mineral resource development, and support for persons with disabilities via the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD).
"This budget is realistic, responsible, and citizen-centered," Yahaya stated, adding that his government has impacted every sector more than any previous administration in Gombe's history.
He praised the Assembly for its thorough, people-focused enhancements and noted consistent budget implementation rates above 70%, vowing to uphold fiscal discipline.
The Governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for federal support and called for increased interventions, concluding: "We started with work, we are still working, and we will end with more work."
Speaker Luggerewo commended the Governor's developmental strides, particularly in health and education, citing global recognition at a recent state-hosted health summit.
He affirmed the Assembly's adjustments were made in the public's best interest and appreciated the harmonious executive-legislative relationship.
