Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang is poised to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to his Political Adviser, Istifanus Nwansat.
In an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday, Nwansat explained that the governor's impending move stems from the ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has rendered it an unstable platform for future elections.
"After a thorough assessment of all available options, we have concluded that joining the APC presents the safest path forward with the least risk," Nwansat said. He added that the decision also reflects Muftwang's desire to align Plateau State with President Bola Tinubu's national governance agenda.
"As a leader, the governor believes it is prudent to guide his supporters toward collaboration with the President," Nwansat noted. "Despite being elected on the PDP ticket, we recognize and appreciate Mr. President's efforts to stabilize the country."
Sources indicate President Tinubu has endorsed the move, though some factions within the Plateau APC have expressed reservations.
