Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the sum of ₦706,594,787.50 for scholarships and educational support to hundreds of students, including orphans of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members who lost their lives fighting Boko Haram insurgency.
The approval, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Monday in Maiduguri by the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Dr. Bala Isa, during a press briefing.
Key beneficiaries include:
300 orphans of fallen Civilian JTF members who supported security forces against terrorism
206 students of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, under the Borno State Special Scholarship Scheme
34 students of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri
Repatriated students from crisis-hit Sudan to help them resume academic activities
104 nursing students sitting for professional examinations at the College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri
Upkeep allowances for 523 nursing students covering five months
Second tranche payment for 304 postgraduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs in Nigerian universities
Dr. Isa described the gesture as a strong demonstration of Governor Zulum’s commitment to education as a cornerstone of the state’s reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement efforts.
“This financial intervention shows the central role education plays in rebuilding Borno. It sends a clear message: no child will be left behind, and every young person willing to learn will be supported,” he said.
The Scholarship Board pledged full transparency and prompt disbursement, assuring that all approved funds will reach the intended beneficiaries without delay.
Dr. Isa commended Governor Zulum’s sustained investment in education and youth development, calling his leadership “a beacon of hope” for the people of Borno.
