Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has distributed sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to chairpersons of the state’s 20 LGAs.
The SUVs were presented in Abeokuta, the state capital, on
Thursday as part of the Christmas season activities.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Ganiyu Hamzat,
commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, said the initiative
was aimed at strengthening administration and service delivery at the
grassroots.
Hamzat added that was in line with the governor’s commitment to empowering local councils to function more effectively.
He praised the council chairmen for their roles in
delivering development projects at the community level and assured them of the
state government’s continued collaboration to improve the living conditions of
residents.
Afolasade Adeyemo, the chairperson of the Association of
Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun state chapter, described the
donation as timely and significant, thanking the governor for keeping his
promise.
Adeyemo, who also chairs Odeda LGA, highlighted Abiodun’s
record in sectors such as education, housing, healthcare and road
infrastructure, noting that his ISEYA agenda has positively repositioned the
state.
She pledged the support of LG chairmen in advancing the
administration’s development goals.
According to the council leaders, the SUVs will improve
their mobility, enabling them to reach rural communities more easily and
respond promptly to the needs of residents at the grassroots.
