Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the prestigious CREED Magazine “Governor of the Year 2025” award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in infrastructure development and good governance.
The award was presented during the Annual Dinner and Awards Night organised by CREED Magazine at Tropical Galeria, Kano, on Friday.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Barr. Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, dedicated the award to the people of Kano State and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to justice, transparency, and rapid infrastructural transformation.
The Governor highlighted landmark justice sector reforms, including a comprehensive review of custodial centres that led to the discovery and resolution of cases of prolonged detention without trial.
Missing case files were recovered, legal advice issued, and innocent detainees released in line with the rule of law.
He also outlined major strides in infrastructure, including massive road rehabilitation, expansion of potable water supply, renovation of public schools and hospitals, and ambitious urban renewal projects designed to reposition Kano as a clean, safe, and modern mega city.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf commended the legal community for its role in upholding justice and praised CREED Magazine for fostering constructive dialogue on law, leadership, and development.
The ceremony was graced by top government officials, including Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa (Commissioner for Water Resources), Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu (Commissioner for Housing Development), Engr. Marwan Ahmad (Commissioner for Works), Dr. Kabiru Sani Yakubu (MD, KASCO), Arc. Hauwa Tudunwada (MD, KNUPDA), and Engr. Abba Kankarofi (Deputy MD, KARMA).
Traditional royalty was represented by His Highness, the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir.While presenting the award, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. S.T. Hon, SAN, lauded Governor Yusuf’s visionary leadership and people-centred governance since assuming office.
Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to intensify efforts toward making Kano a model of sustainable development and equitable justice in Nigeria.
