Gen. Musa Officially Assumes Duty as New Defence Minister

Retired General Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, has formally taken office as Nigeria's Minister of Defence, arriving at the Ministry's Ship House headquarters in Abuja on Friday morning.

The development comes less than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu administered the oath of office to Musa at the State House on Thursday, following his swift Senate confirmation on Wednesday after a rigorous five-hour screening.

Musa's appointment, announced by Tinubu on Tuesday in the wake of former Minister Mohammed Badaru's resignation on health grounds, has been widely praised for leveraging the general's proven track record in counterterrorism and inter-agency coordination during his 2023-2025 tenure as CDS.

Upon arrival around 11:10 a.m., Musa inspected the quarter guard in line with military tradition and exchanged pleasantries with service chiefs, including current CDS General Olufemi Oluyede, before holding a closed-door meeting with senior officials to discuss ongoing operations and priorities.
