The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Oluwadamilola Ogooluwa Bamigboye, a Nigerian man, for allegedly evading arrest and abducting immigration officer.
Bamigboye and his accomplice, Rekeya Frazier, have been
taken to court on charges bordering on assaulting a federal agent.
THE CASE
The incident happened on December 10 when agents of Homeland
Security Investigation (HSI) went to Bamigboye’s apartment in Twin Cities in
Plymouth, Minnesota, to investigate him for an alleged overstay of student
visa.
According to FOX 9, when the HSI agents arrived at the
apartment, they started surveilling Bamigboye’s car, which was parked nearby.
The HSI agents said they noticed an SUV parked next to
Bamigboye’s car.
The federal agents said when they approached the SUV on
foot, they saw Bamigboye at the passenger’s seat while Frazier, believed to be
his girlfriend, was the driver.
The agents said they identified themselves with their badges
and informed the duo that they were there to ask questions about Bamigboye’s
immigration status.
According to the criminal complaint, Bamigboye asked the
agents, which kind of police are they and they responded that they are HSI
agents.
Bamigboye was said to have jumped into the backseat of the
SUV and ordered Frazier to start driving the vehicle.
While Frazier was trying to start the vehicle, one of the
agents jumped into the passenger seat to stop her from moving the vehicle. But
the agent’s action yielded no result as Frazier drove the SUV away.
While Frazier was driving the car, the agent asked her to
stop but she pushed the agent’s hand away and reportedly said: “If you don’t
stop, I’m going to crash the car”.
Frazier later told the federal agent that they were going to
the police department.
During the journey, Bamigboye reportedly called 911 while
the agent called the operational command post.
Frazier was said to have continued driving the SUV despite
the agent bearing out his firearm.
While the car was moving, other HSI agents in a Ford SUV
were giving them a hot chase with their lights and sirens activated.
Subsequently, Frazier parked the car in front of New Hope
police department, and other HSI agents in the Ford SUV pinned her SUV in by
parking in front of it.
Bamigboye was said to have jumped out and run to a grocery
store, where he was arrested.
The federal agent had said he feared that he was being
“abducted”.
The duo will face trial at the Minnesota district court.
