The Enugu State High Court has convicted and sentenced two former bankers, Sani Endurance Aferokhe and Hillary Odo, for conspiring to steal N10.3 million from pensioners' accounts while employed at the then Intercontinental Bank Plc (now Access Bank Plc).
Justice A.O. Onovo, presiding at the court's Independence Layout sitting, delivered the judgment on Friday, December 22, 2025, after a trial that began following their arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Enugu Zonal Directorate on January 18, 2016.
The duo faced a 15-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, and stealing. The charges detailed how they unlawfully reactivated dormant accounts belonging to elderly pensioner customers without consent and diverted funds for personal gain between 2012 in Nsukka.

Both defendants initially pleaded not guilty, prompting a full trial during which the EFCC, led by counsel Assistant Commander Michael Ikechukwu Ani, called five witnesses and tendered multiple documents as evidence. In the verdict, the court dismissed counts six and nine.
Hillary Odo (second defendant) was convicted on counts four and seven, while Sani Endurance Aferokhe (first defendant) was convicted on counts one, two, three, five, eight, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen.
