The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a medical doctor accused of providing drugs and medical supplies to kidnapping syndicates operating in Kwara State.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence reports that couriers were transporting supplies from Sokoto to treat injured bandits concealed in the state's forests.
Security sources revealed that many kidnappers have suffered gunshot wounds during recent clashes with security forces, prompting the need for such medical aid.
A security official warned of potential risks, stating, “We advise enhanced security measures at health facilities in densely forested regions, as kidnappers may target them for supplies.
”Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, confirmed the arrest as a significant advancement in the fight against banditry.
“This is a major stride by the DSS, reinforcing that security agencies are closing in on these criminals and disrupting their support networks,” he said.
Ajakaye emphasized that the state government will continue bolstering partnerships with security agencies to eliminate all avenues supporting kidnapping operations.
