Dele Momodu Questions Tinubu's Silence Amid US Strikes on ISIS

Prominent Nigerian publisher and politician Dele Momodu has sparked debate by questioning the whereabouts and response of President Bola Tinubu following U.S. military strikes on Islamic State (ISIS) targets in northwest Nigeria on Christmas Day.

In a widely shared social media post titled "WHERE'S OUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF?", Momodu expressed concern over the lack of immediate communication from the Nigerian leader after reports emerged of President Donald Trump ordering airstrikes on ISIS camps in Sokoto State.

The operation, described by U.S. officials as coordinated with Nigerian authorities, reportedly killed multiple militants and involved precision munitions, including Tomahawk missiles launched from a Navy vessel in the Gulf of Guinea.

Momodu wrote that news of the strikes reached Nigerians "in the middle of last night, while rounding up our CHRISTMAS jollification," describing the initial reports as "foggy and brief."

He argued that in "normal climes," the President would have cut short any vacation, returned to Abuja, convened a war cabinet, and provided regular updates to the public.

"We implore our Master Strategist not to abdicate responsibility and our sovereignty at this crucial, and historic moment, but to stand beside America, in this fight against terrorism," Momodu added.

The U.S. strikes follow months of warnings from Trump, who has accused Islamist groups in Nigeria of targeting Christians.

Nigerian officials confirmed cooperation with the U.S., emphasizing joint efforts against terrorism and rejecting any religious framing of the violence, which affects citizens of all faiths.
