Defence Minister, Bello Matawalle has taken legal action to stop several Nigerian media outlets from publishing stories that accuse him of having links to terrorist groups.
On Wednesday evening, his lawyers filed a suit at the Kano
State High Court (Case No. 4).
The court granted a temporary order against Sahara
Reporters, Mikiya, Omoyele Sowore, and other media organisations.
The order stops them, for now, from releasing any reports
about the allegations.
This legal move comes after recent reports claimed that
Matawalle had connections with certain terrorist groups.
The claims caused a nationwide stir, especially following
the replacement of former Defence Minister Badaru with General Christopher
Musa.
In his application, Matawalle asked the court to stop the
media from publishing what he described as false and damaging stories.
He said such reports are not backed by evidence and could
mislead Nigerians while harming his reputation.
