The Honourable Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), on Thursday paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of the late Brigadier General Bassey Monday Uba, the gallant Commander of 25 Task Force Brigade who was killed in action by ISWAP terrorists on November 15, 2025, at Wajiroko community in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Accompanied by senior military officers, Gen. Musa was received by the bereaved family in a solemn atmosphere filled with grief and pride. The Minister described the late Brig. Gen. Uba as “a fearless patriot and an exceptional field commander who paid the ultimate price while defending our nation.”
“Today, I stand here not just as a Minister, but as a brother and comrade, to mourn with you and to assure you that Nigeria will never forget the sacrifice of your husband, father, and son,” Gen. Musa said, fighting back tears. “His blood, shed in the sands of Wajiroko, waters the tree of our freedom. The Federal Government and the Armed Forces will continue to stand by this family.”
The Minister handed over an official letter of condolence from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of families of fallen heroes.Members of the family, visibly moved by the visit, thanked the Minister for the rare personal gesture, noting that it brought them immense comfort almost one month after the tragic ambush that claimed the life of the senior officer.
Brig. Gen. Uba was ambushed alongside his convoy while on a routine operational patrol to secure communities along the Damboa–Biu road. Despite gallant resistance, he was overpowered, captured, and later executed by ISWAP fighters, an incident that sent shockwaves across the nation.
The Minister’s visit has been widely commended by military officers, civil society groups, and Nigerians on social media as a powerful demonstration of empathy and leadership at a time when the Armed Forces continue to battle insurgency in the North-East.
As the nation continues to honour its fallen heroes, Gen. Musa reiterated the resolve of the Federal Government to degrade terrorist elements and bring lasting peace to Borno State and the entire country.
