Armed bandits have demanded a staggering ₦500 million ransom for the release of five road construction workers kidnapped two weeks ago in Kwara State.
The victims were abducted on December 15, 2025, in broad daylight while working at a state government construction site along the Sabaja/Owa-Onire Road in Isin Local Government Area.
Reports indicate the gunmen stormed the site around 11:40 a.m., overpowering the workers and marching them into nearby bushes. Among the abducted are professionals and labourers, including two staff members from the Kwara State Ministry of Works.
Families of the victims, speaking through a representative during a press conference in Ilorin, described the ordeal as heartbreaking. "These men were not criminals or adventurers.
They were dedicated professionals contributing to the development of Kwara State and Nigeria," one spokesman said, adding that lives have been "suspended between hope and despair.
"The relatives, including wives and children who were visibly distraught, appealed to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to prioritise rescue efforts and treat the case as an emergency.
They also called for direct communication from authorities and support for affected households during this period. The kidnappers have reportedly insisted on dealing only with the government, refusing negotiations with family members.
Security forces have been deployed to the area, but no official statement on progress has been released as of yet.
