Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
According to Gbenga Omotosho, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, the crash occurred around the Shagamu Interchange axis of the expressway. He disclosed that the Lagos State Government promptly dispatched an ambulance to the scene.
Images from the accident site show a shirtless Joshua emerging from the wreckage without serious injuries, surrounded by debris and a crowd of onlookers and sympathisers.
Confirming the incident, Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, told TheCable that two persons lost their lives in the crash, while Joshua sustained only minor injuries. He added that further details would be released in due course.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred when a Lexus Jeep, with registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck along the route.
The crash comes just nine days after Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in an exhibition heavyweight bout at the Kaseya Centre in Miami. The former heavyweight champion has been spending the yuletide holiday in Nigeria since the fight.
