A faction within the Accord Party has conducted its own primary, resulting in the emergence of Mr. Clement Bamigbola as its candidate for the Osun State governorship election coming up in 2026.
This development comes just four days after Governor Ademola
Adeleke was declared the party’s flagbearer in a separate exercise.
Earlier in the week, under the leadership of Maxwell
Mgbudem, the party had held a primary that produced Adeleke, who just defected
from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the candidate.
However, a segment of the party rejected that outcome,
arguing that Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem is not the legally recognized national
chairman of the Accord Party.
In a new development on Sunday, approximately 300 delegates
representing the Accord Party from various parts of Osun State gathered at
Regina Suite, Osogbo, to conduct a fresh primary.
Through a voice vote by the delegates, Bamigbola was chosen
as the factional candidate. Following the voting, Hon. Olufemi Ogundare,
Chairman of the Primary Committee, officially declared him as the party’s
candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
