Leke Abejide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has firmly rejected his alleged expulsion from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that he does not recognize the decision.
In an interview on NTA's Political Update program, Abejide attributed the controversy to a deeper leadership crisis within the party.
He accused certain individuals of unlawfully presenting themselves as ADC leaders without undergoing a proper convention to legitimize their positions.
"This is not a valid expulsion because the so-called leaders who announced it lack any legitimate authority," Abejide stated.
"The party is in the midst of a leadership dispute, and until a formal convention resolves it, their actions hold no weight."
The development comes amid escalating tensions in the ADC, a relatively new political party in Nigeria's multiparty landscape, which has faced internal wrangling over control and direction ahead of upcoming elections.
Abejide, a prominent figure known for his advocacy on constituency development issues, emphasized his continued commitment to his legislative duties and constituents, regardless of the party's internal turmoil.
Party stakeholders are yet to issue an official response, but the impasse could have implications for ADC's cohesion and electoral strategy in the coming months.
