Bashir Ahmad, an aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, stirred reactions on Thursday after he said the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, is a good person, but individuals around him will not allow him achieve his dream.
In a post shared on his X account, Ahmad stated that if
Obi’s supporters genuinely wanted him to succeed, they should advise him to
jettison the 2027 presidential election for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Peter is a good person, but the people around him will
never allow him to achieve his dream,” Ahmad wrote.
He criticized what he referred to as “reckless content”
shared by Obi’s associates on social media, alleging that their public conduct
could reflect even more troubling private advice.
“With this reckless content you post publicly, one can only
imagine the kind of things you tell him privately,” he added.
“If you genuinely want him to succeed, advise him to
sacrifice today so that others can sacrifice for him tomorrow. Tell him to come
and join us; let President Tinubu complete his mandate in 2031, and then the
future remains open for everyone,” Ahmad wrote.
His comments come as political heavyweights, including
former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, plot to deny Tinubu a
second term.
