Barely a day after the Department of State Services paraded a medical doctor caught ferrying medical supplies from Sokoto to kidnapping gangs in Kwara, police in the state have intercepted another dangerous consignment 100 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
Operatives of the Lafiaji Area Command, Edu LGA, made the arrest during a routine stop-and-search operation along Gbugbu/Patigi road at about 7:30 am on Friday.
The ammunition was found hidden among personal effects and native charms inside a Toyota Corolla (registration EP 434 ABC) heading towards Patigi.
The driver, Owolaramfe Rafiu, and his four passengers Musa Mohammed, Adam Alhaji Lawal, Musa Shaibu, and one other were immediately taken into custody.
Spokesman for the Kwara State Police Command confirmed the arrest, stating that intensive investigation is ongoing to trace the intended recipients of the ammunition and the source of supply.
The suspects remain in detention as efforts continue to dismantle criminal networks fueling kidnapping and armed violence across the state.
