A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies before the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to nullify the party’s national convention held on 15–16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In the suit filed by the faction alongside its acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the plaintiffs want the court to declare the Ibadan convention and all decisions taken there – including the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, Samuel Anyanwu, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose and eight others as “null, void and of no effect”.
The faction is also seeking an order restraining INEC and security agencies from recognising Umar Damagum as acting National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman, and other officials elected or appointed at the convention.
The plaintiffs contend that the Ibadan convention violated three subsisting Federal High Court judgements.Among other reliefs, the Wike-backed group is asking the court to:Direct security agencies to grant them unfettered access to the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in Abuja
Restrain INEC from accepting any change of the PDP’s official address from the two existing locations
Order security agencies to protect factional members while they conduct the affairs of the party
In a related development, the faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has written to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, petitioning against the assignment of PDP-related cases to three judges it described as “Courts of Particular Concern”.
In the letter dated 19 November 2025 and signed by its National Secretary, Teofeek Arapaja, the Turaki faction listed the courts presided over by Justices James Omotosho, Peter Odo Lifu, and M. Abduimalik as the ones of concern.
Justices Omotosho and Lifu had earlier issued orders restraining the PDP from holding the Ibadan convention, while Justice Abduimalik is currently handling a separate suit against the party and INEC.
