VDM, Mr Jollof apologize over in-flight brawl

Comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, widely known as Mr Jollof, has opened up about the in-flight confrontation with social media personality VeryDarkMan.

Speaking on Instagram on Tuesday, he explained the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasising that he is not naturally violent and only acted to defend himself.

Mr Jollof also extended a sincere apology to the passengers affected by the delay caused by the clash, as well as to the National Civil Aviation Authority and United Nigeria Airlines, expressing regret for any inconvenience his actions may have caused.

“I want to use this medium to sincerely apologise to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and the passengers. I was only defending myself. You guys saw what happened. I am very sorry if I delayed your appointment. I’m very sorry. Pardon me. I am not that kind of person; it will never happen again. And to my lovely wife, I know you are proud of me. And to my kids, I’m sorry, daddy will never do this again,” he stated.

He also claimed that he was under attack, stressing that he was only defending himself.

VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Otse has also issued a public apology.

Speaking in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Otse said he took “full responsibility” for the disruption and acknowledged that the incident should not have happened.

“I would really like to apologise for what happened yesterday on the United Nigerian Airlines. What happened yesterday was not supposed to happen, and I will take full responsibility for it,” he said.

He noted that the altercation delayed passengers who had important engagements.

“A lot of people on that flight had important things to do, but because of that little irresponsibility from my end, their flight was delayed. Some people might have had medical emergencies, and some had business contracts to sign. I don’t know what that little delay would have cost them, and I really want to apologise,” he added.

The influencer apologised to passengers of all ages — “all the mothers, all the daddies, all the uncles, all the younger ones” — as well as the pilot and flight crew.

Otse admitted the confrontation was avoidable, stressing that he “acted irresponsibly.”

“Looking back at what happened yesterday, I really didn’t like that part. Even though some people saw everything as a cruise on social media, I acted irresponsibly,” he said.

While he stopped short of promising it would never happen again, Otse assured Nigerians that such behaviour would not occur in public spaces.

“I cannot guarantee that it will not happen again. I can only guarantee that it will not happen on the plane, on the bus or in a public place that will stop people from going to their destination,” he said. “But I am really, really sorry for yesterday.”

It was earlier reported that VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof may face criminal prosecution following their clash aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight on Monday.
