Trump “Does Not Make Idle Threats” – US Congressman Moore to Nigerian Delegation

US Congressman Riley Moore told a high-level Nigerian delegation on Wednesday that President Donald Trump “does not make idle threats” regarding the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Moore, a leading voice in Washington on the issue, hosted the ten-member team led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The delegation also included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, and Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede.

In a post-meeting statement, Moore described the discussion as “frank, honest, and productive,” saying the Nigerian officials outlined challenges in counterterrorism, security assistance, and protecting vulnerable communities.

He stressed, however, that the United States “will not tolerate continued violence against Christians or other forms of religious persecution” and is ready to work with Nigeria to end the bloodshed.

Moore had introduced a House resolution on 7 November condemning the “ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria” and supporting Trump’s decision to redesignate the country as a Country of Particular Concern.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly rejected claims of targeted persecution of Christians. No official response has been issued by the Nigerian delegation following the meeting.
