Operatives of the Nigerian Police Scorpion Squad have arrested a 40-year-old suspected transborder criminal financier, Alhaji Jazuli Adamu, in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
The arrest followed actionable digital intelligence and confessions from armed robbery suspects earlier taken into custody.
Zagazola Makama reports that Jazuli Adamu was identified as the key financial facilitator for Alhaji Abdulkarim Ibrahim (alias Gabeida), a Niger Republic-based kingpin who allegedly arms criminal gangs to snatch SUVs and Hilux vehicles across Nigeria.
Proceeds from the robberies were reportedly transferred to Jazuli’s accounts, from where he disbursed payments to the robbers while the stolen vehicles were smuggled into Niger Republic.
During the operation, police recovered ₦15,280,000 (Fifteen Million, Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira) from the suspect money transferred by Abdulkarim Ibrahim for onward payment to the armed robbers.
Investigators discovered that Jazuli operates a mini Bureau de Change in Kano. A preliminary review of his digital transactions revealed payment records and receipts totalling billions of naira exchanged between him and the Niger Republic-based syndicate leader.
Several suspects who received payments for stolen vehicles through Jazuli are already in custody and undergoing interrogation.Police say the investigation into the cross-border syndicate is ongoing.
