Sule Lamido Rejects Claims of Dropping Lawsuit Over PDP Chairmanship Snub

Former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido has denied reports that he withdrew his lawsuit against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting a Federal High Court ruling on Friday reaffirmed his right to contest the national chairmanship and blocked the planned convention in Ibadan.

In a Facebook statement, Lamido called the withdrawal claim “false” and “mischievous,” revealing he received calls from concerned PDP members after rumors spread at the convention venue.

At about 2:30 p.m., Justice Peter Lifu in Abuja delivered judgment in Lamido’s suit, declaring that the PDP violated its constitution by denying him access to the chairmanship nomination form.

The court issued a final order restraining the PDP from holding its November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan until Lamido is allowed to purchase the form, campaign, and mobilize support.

Justice Lifu also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or participating in the event.

Certified copies of the order have been served on both INEC and the PDP, Lamido confirmed.

He dismissed speculation of a deal with Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, reaffirming his commitment to lawful pursuit of his political rights within the party.

The ruling follows a November 11 interim order halting the convention pending the substantive case. The judge stressed the PDP’s “strict obligation” to follow its own rules and grant eligible members equal opportunity.
