Senator Wammako to Tinubu: Withdrawing Police from VIPs Will Make Us Targets

Senator Aliyu Wammako has opposed the withdrawal of police officers from Very Important Persons, VIPs, in the country.

He said the decision poses significant danger, as VIPs could become the next targets for criminals.

He added that, instead of withdrawing protection, the government should focus on the best possible means to flush out bandits, emphasizing that Nigeria should not submit to them; rather, they should submit to Nigeria.

“I have to disagree with the idea of withdrawing police from VIPs. That is another danger because the VIPs are going to be the next target,” the lawmaker said on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.

Recall  that President Bola Tinubu had ordered the withdrawal of police officers currently providing security for VIPs in the country.

The President said that henceforth, police authorities will redeploy these officers to concentrate on their core policing duties.

The presidential directive was issued during a security meeting President Tinubu held on Sunday with the police, Air Force, Army chiefs, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja.

According to the directive, VIPs who require police protection will now request well-armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
