The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its indefinite nationwide strike for four weeks with immediate effect.
The decision was announced on Saturday following an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held on November 29, 2025.
The industrial action, which began on November 1, lasted 29 days and paralyzed services in federal and state tertiary hospitals. Over 11,000 resident doctors in 91 accredited training centers downed tools, resulting in canceled elective surgeries, skeletal emergency services, and prolonged suffering for patients across the country.
NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, confirmed that the suspension followed marathon negotiations with the Federal Government and the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The association said it will review the government’s compliance within the four-week window and decide on further action if the terms of the agreement are not met.
