The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, has stated that he never went after his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels for marriage.
Ned made the disclosure while reacting to the controversy
and criticism trailing his 6-year marriage to Regina.
Regina had two weeks ago called out Ned Nwoko over alleged
domestic violence, saying she was no longer interested in a marriage with him.
In response, Ned accused Regina of substance abuse, and
insisted that the actress must go to the rehabilitation center.
The public exchange sparked controversy with many Nigerians
including celebrities criticising Senator Ned for allegedly marrying Regina at
17-year-old, when she was still a minor. And called for his resignation from
the Senate.
Addressing the controversy in a statement made available to
the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN by his Communication and Technical Action Team,
the Senator also claimed that Regina Daniels’ mother, Rita brought her to him
for marriage.
Denying marrying Regina at 17, Ned Nwoko, who noted that he
never went after her for marriage, stated that he has witnesses that her mother
brought her to him.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born October 10, 2000. If
she has been married to me for 6 years, that means she married at 19 and not
17. The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage.
“There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally
brought her to me. I never went after her”.
