PDP Crisis Deepens: Abdulrahman Led Faction Seizes Control of Wadata Plaza Headquarters

The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Tuesday as the faction loyal to acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Ilyas Damagum and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed physically took control of the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, ahead of the scheduled 103rd Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.

Security operatives, including police and Department of State Services (DSS) personnel, have completely sealed off the secretariat and its environs, restricting movement in and out of the building.

Speaking to journalists at the premises, the National Secretary of the Abdulrahman-led faction, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, stated that the heavy security presence was necessary “to prevent any breakdown of law and order” and to ensure the smooth conduct of the faction’s meetings.

As at the time of filing this report, members of the rival faction led by suspended National Chairman Ambassador Kabiru Turaki were yet to arrive at the secretariat for their own parallel meeting, leaving the Abdulrahman group in full control of the national headquarters.
