PDP Chieftain, Olafeso Accuses Convention Opponents of Plotting One-Party State

Former PDP National Vice Chairman Dr. Eddy Olafeso has accused forces blocking the party’s national convention of plotting to entrench a one-party dictatorship in Nigeria, vowing that the November 15–16 Ibadan convention will proceed despite a fresh court injunction.

Speaking on Tuesday, on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Olafeso branded the Federal High Court’s restraining order as “the climax of judicial rascality” and declared it would not deter the PDP.“

This did not come as a shock. A group is hell-bent on destroying the party completely, but good will prevail over evil,” he said. “We are energised. This shall not stand. Truth and justice must prevail.”

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier Tuesday barred the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from holding or monitoring the convention, citing violations of due process.

The suit was filed by former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, who claimed he was denied access to the national chairmanship nomination form.

Lifu ruled that the PDP failed to publish a lawful timetable and warned that flouting the rule of law could plunge the nation into anarchy.

Betrayal and Ulterior MotivesOlafeso lambasted defectors and internal saboteurs, accusing them of betraying the party that elevated them from obscurity.

“Many were unknown until PDP made them governors. Now they rebel against the same platform and openly back another party for 2027,” he charged.

“Their agenda is not for the people, it is to entrench a one-party state, and that cannot be good for Nigeria.”

This is the second judicial halt in weeks. In October, Justice James Omotosho suspended the convention pending compliance with the PDP constitution and Electoral Act.

An Oyo State High Court had briefly cleared preparations but adjourned for full hearings.Undeterred, Olafeso insisted: “We will not allow this. The convention will hold.”
