Renowned physician and businessman Dr. Wole Oluyede has been declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2026 Ekiti State election.Oluyede secured the ticket with 279 votes, edging out closest rival Funsho Ayeni (239 votes) and Funmi Oguns (17 votes) in a fiercely contested primary.
The election took place on Saturday at Vino Event Centre, Elemi, along Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti, monitored by INEC officials and security agencies.Accreditation started at 6:00 pm, with voting running late into the night and concluding early Sunday.
Delegates from all 16 local government areas participated in what observers called an orderly and credible process.
An Australia-based medical doctor with practice in the US, Canada, the Caribbean, and Australia, Oluyede brings global experience to the race.In his acceptance speech, he thanked supporters, party leaders, and delegates, dedicating the victory to all PDP members.
“There are no losers here only partners in progress,” Oluyede said, praising the transparent and fair conduct of the primary.
He commended acting National Chairman Ambassador Ilya Damagum and Southwest PDP leaders, particularly Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, for ensuring a level playing field.
Oluyede also hailed his fellow aspirants for their maturity, saying the process strengthened internal democracy in Ekiti PDP.“With this victory, true change is coming to Ekiti,” he declared. “Together, we will build a state that reflects the hopes of our people.”
