NSCDC Nabs 20 Notorious Criminals, Recovers AK-47s, Stolen Assets

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled several criminal networks across Nigeria, arresting 20 suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, vandalism, and fraud in operations spanning the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Ondo States.

The coordinated raids, executed between October and November 2025 by the Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad (CG's SIS), were carried out under directives from NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to target high-value syndicates threatening national security.

Commandant Apolos Dandaura, head of the SIS, detailed the breakthroughs in a statement relayed through National Spokesperson CSC Afolabi Babawale, emphasizing the role of credible public intelligence in the successes.

Among the detainees were two confirmed terrorist suspects tied to communal violence, as well as five key receivers of stolen goods who formed the logistical backbone of the operations.

"The squad has successfully apprehended individuals involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, vandalism, obtaining property by false pretence, and related crimes," Dandaura said, highlighting how the arrests disrupt the financial and supply chains fueling these enterprises.

Key highlights from the operations include:

Terrorism and Kidnapping Syndicate in Benue, Plateau, and Nasarawa: Ibrahim Hudu, 30, and Hassan Ibrahim, 23, were nabbed in Lafia, Nasarawa State, after confessing to the abduction and murder of Obasanjo H. Aku along the Lafia-Akwanga Road and Muhammadu Yaka from Nasarawa Eggon.

The duo collected ransoms before killing their victims and were also implicated in militia-style attacks in Yelwata, Benue State, and Qua’an-Pan, Plateau State, involving looting and arson.

Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 40 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, and ritual charms.

Highway Banditry and Cattle Rustling Across Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, and Kaduna: Bamaiyi Mustapha (alias Dan Borno), John Ishaya (Baushe), and James Bako (Muchake) were arrested for plotting kidnappings of prominent figures and staging armed robberies on major routes like the Minna-Niger and Abuja-Kaduna highways.

The trio was also connected to livestock theft in Nasarawa.

Vandalism and Fraud in the FCT and Nasarawa: Two suspects targeted critical infrastructure, sabotaging installations of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

In Nasarawa, Nyitamen George, 34, was detained for illegally tampering with electrical lines and extorting residents for "connections," while Muhammad Aliyu, 23, faced charges of vandalism, assault, and causing grievous harm. Three others were held for fraud schemes.

Arms Trafficking in Ondo: Iseoluwa Shadrach Omosehin, 27, was captured with two G3 rifles, underscoring efforts to curb weapons proliferation in the Southwest.

Overall recoveries bolstered the haul: two AK-47 rifles, two G3 rifles, 65 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a hijacked 2010 Toyota Corolla LE, four stolen motorcycles, mobile phones, electronics, cash, and additional charms. Dandaura noted that five of the arrests specifically targeted fences who laundered proceeds from vehicle thefts, bike snatches, and gadget heists."
