Feared bandit leader Isiya Kwashen Garwa has released 37 men and women abducted from communities in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, security sources and residents confirmed Friday.
The victims, seized in a series of raids along the Bakori–Funtua axis in recent weeks, were set free on Wednesday after spending several days in captivity deep inside the Rugu Forest.
Community leaders described the release as a rare moment of relief amid escalating kidnappings in the area, though scores of others remain in the hands of various armed gangs.
“Alhamdulillah, 37 of our people are back home safe. We thank God,” a local source told Zagazola Makama. “But many brothers and sisters are still suffering in the forest. May Allah destroy these criminals and expose anyone supporting them.”
No ransom details have been confirmed, and it remains unclear what prompted Kwashen Garwa’s decision to free the group.
Security forces have intensified patrols in Bakori LGA following the development, as residents call for sustained operations to rescue remaining captives and dismantle the bandit networks terrorising the region.
