Nigeria and Tunisia have agreed to deepen bilateral economic ties, with a focus on accelerating trade, private-sector investment, and continental integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The commitment was reached during high-level talks in Abuja between Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Mr. Samir Abdelhafidh, on the sidelines of the Arab-Africa Trade Bridge (AATB) and Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum (AHEB) meetings.
Minister Edun emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s determination to dramatically increase intra-African trade, noting that Africa currently exports more to the rest of the world than to itself.
“Nigeria is implementing far-reaching reforms to make the investment climate more attractive, strengthen the business environment, and protect vulnerable households while driving sustainable growth,” Edun said.
He stressed the need to shift from dialogue to delivery: “This partnership must move from conversation to execution. We are establishing a joint working group to ensure rapid follow-through and tangible results.
”Tunisia expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation in tourism, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and small and medium enterprise development. Minister Abdelhafidh announced that a direct Tunis–Abuja flight will be launched by 2026 to facilitate business travel and investment flows.
Both ministers agreed that stronger Nigeria–Tunisia collaboration will unlock private-sector opportunities, widen market access, and contribute significantly to Africa’s broader economic integration goals.
